Planning Commission

The Town of Rice Lake Planning Commission was created in 1997 for the purpose of creating a Master Plan for the Town.  Such a Plan was adopted in Sept. 1998 and then was revised and adopted in 2009 as the town’s Comprehensive Plan. The Planning Commission updated  the Comprehensive Plan in 2022 to meet the statutory requirements under Section 66.1001 of the Wisconsin Statutes which states plans must be updated at least once every 10 years.

The Planning Commission meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Town Hall, 1830 Macauley Ave., Rice Lake, except when such date falls on an election and the commission sets an alternative date at the preceding meeting.  All land use requests for variances, special exceptions, rezoning, and subdivisions must be reviewed by the Planning Commission which then makes a recommendation to the Town Board.  For a request to be placed on the Commission‘s monthly agenda, a Land Use Application and applicable documents and fees must be submitted at least 15 days prior to the scheduled meeting.

The Commission is composed of seven citizen members, and in addition, the Town Engineer and Town Building Inspector are ex officio members (non-voting).  Members hold office for staggered terms of three years and are appointed by the Chairperson of the Town Board and confirmed by the Town Board.
